Panel discussion on eliminating single use Styrofoam & Plastic Bags

Arlington residents were invited to discuss eliminating Styrofoam and plastic bags from Arlington retail stores and restaurants on April 3, 2011. The sponsors of the discussion included the Arlington Greens, the Mount Vernon Sierra Club and (ACE) Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment. Panelists included Jackie Zovko of Whole Foods, Julie Lawson of Surfrider DC and Audrey Clement of the Arlington Green Party. It was a surprisingly constructive discussion given the complexities of the issue. Julie Lawson summed up the discussion when she shared why she believes so strongly in banning plastic bags. “I went to what seemed like hundreds of stream clean ups and one day decided picking up trash was not the answer, eliminating it was.” Rumor has it that Audrey Clement will introduce an ordinance on banning plastic bags and single use Styrofoam on Earth Day in Arlington at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.
Styrofoam Mom will be there to support her enlightened effort.
